The iNMiGRATiON site-specific performace installation series featuring sans le systeme returns for the spring & summer 2017 season, beginning with a very special benefit event at Hook & Ladder on Thur May 18. (scroll below for details). Sans Le Systeme first appeared on the original CROSSFADED Vol. 1 compilation way back in 2002, (featuring old friends Jeremy Ylvisaker, Mark Erickson, and Martin Dosh). The new SLS incarnation has added some of the best players in town, performing in an "orchestra pit" configuration that scores iNMiGRATiON's immersive environment with highly nuanced and textured group improvisations that expand throughout the space with roving Free Range Orchestra & Choir, and realtime live video projections by video artist Brian Dehler. After a successful 14-week residency at The Third Bird in spring and summer 2015, the series moved to ICEHOUSE for an indoor winter residency, before it migrated outdoors in 2016 to The Midtown Farmers Market, The Wolf House, Square Lake Festival, The Dakota Homecoming & Pow Wow at Winona State College, and The American Swedish Institute. You can see a short video trailer from the Icehouse residency here. In 2017, we're excited to continue with newiNMi events at The Northern Spark Festival on June 10, and return engagements at The Midtown Farmers Market, Wolf House, and Square Lake Film & Music Festival, among others.

TiWakan (tee-wah-KAAN) is a musical poetry spoken word duo featuring Dakota elder and poet STRONG BUFFALO and his trusty sidekick, the Custard Kid. With the help of Pangea World Theater, Oyate Hotanin ("Voice of the People"), and Wavelets Creative, are launching the newBUFFALO SHOW series at the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater on April 25, featuring more real time video art by Brian Dehler (iNMiGRATiON) and o, ther special guests and features. Combining live performance with in depth conversations and video clips featuring a wide variety of native artists across disciplines.

The GRAVE TRIO is myself, Ben Durrant (Crazy Beast Studio) and Ryan Lovan, (rhythm section/production team for Roma di Luna, Toby Thomas Churchill, and WAREY. Since 2011 we've been playing as both an instrumental trio and as a backing band for Channy Leaneagh (Polica) and Duluth singer-songwriter TOBY THOMAS CHURCHILL (The Alrights). We have released a few early instrumental trio recordings on our sound cloud & FACEBOOK PAGEs. We recorded with both Toby and Channy in 2014, and Toby's new record, "Where is My Rumspringa Darling?" was released on Chaperone Records to rave reviews.

WAREY is The Grave Trio + Channy Leaneagh. After performing a handful of live shows in summer and fall 2014, we headed into the northwoods studio at SPARTA SOUND with old friend Rich Mattson in early December to record a bunch of songs. In 2015, after a three month winter residency at Icehouse and a spot at First Avenue's "Best New Bands 2014" showcase, we focused on finishing recording and mixing our album. As we got busy again with our other projects (Polica, sans le systeme, Grave Trio)we decided to wait on releasing the WAREY album, feeling like we hadn't quite gotten the results we wanted in the recordings, and wanted to wait until the time was right to take another shot at it. Stay Tuned. New Polica record comes out in March!

LATEDUSTER returned for our first show in over a year, performing at ICEHOUSE in Minneapolis in November 2014 with Halloween, Alaska. We were joined by Dennis Conrad on turntables and Devon Gray on keys, two regular participants in sans le systeme's newiNMiGRATiON series. Great photos and links at our Lateduster facebook page. Stay tuned for more developments....

Check out this great video for Toby Churchill's song "Belong" from his debut record, DEATH.

Emily Johnson / Catalyst's new performance installation, SHORE, premiered in June 2014 as part of Northrop's Grand re-Opening season in MInneapolis and was my final project with Catalyst, after over a decade as Music Director and lead collaborator.. SHORE was the third part of a trilogy of works that began with The Thank-you Bar,(2009) and continued with Niicugni (2012). Creation of SHORE was a collaboration between myself, choreographer Emily Johnson, 3 time Obie-award winning director Ain Gordon, and singer songwriter Nona Marie Invie (DARK DARK DARK) along with Fletcher Barnhill, Aretha Aoki, Krista Langberg, and The SHORE Choir. We also had our longtime Catalyst lighting designer Heidi Eckwall and costumer Angie Vo on the team. SHORE has four parts - STORY, ACTION, PERFORMANCE, and FEAST - over the course of a week. 2015 tour stops included NYC (New York Live Arts), Alaska (Bunnel Street Arts Center), San Francisco (ODC) and Seattle (On The Boards).

BLACKFISH, my experiemental improvisation duo with composer / multi-instrumentalist Joel Pickard, released our TYB Tour Collection of 8 CDs lin FALL 2011, with special concerts in Minneapolis and New York to celebrate. (Click on links for more info) Last fall, we released the final, 9th installment, BF09: New York. The limited edition, individually numbered and letter-pressed CD packages were designed by Scott Ponik and look amazing. They're available for purchase through the Catalyst online store as either individual discs or as the 8-CD box set.. There are also new videos from our various BLACKFISH shows on the Catayst vimeo page, with more to be added soon. (Headphones recommended) You can also listen and/or download whole concerts or individual BF "tracks" at our bandcamp page. BF09: New York had an October 2014 release with shows to celebrate in Minneapolis and Grand Marais. We're also honored to have collaborated with acclaimed Irish Choreographer John Scott on the score to his award winning dance, Body Duet., which got rave reviews for its premieres in Dublin, and US premiere in Philadelphia. Body Duet features tracks from several of the BLACKFISH TYB Tour collection, as well as the track "Ghost Dog" from Sans Le Systeme.
