My Sugarbush Sound Garden has been presented many times, including in far-away places like the UK, Canada, and California, but only when it was composed in 2022 and when it returned to the original Akiing site has it been part of an actual SUGARBUSH! It was so great to share this Sound Garden as part of the Sugarbush and Maple Syrup Day activities at Wild River State Park this year and to celebrate the Anishinaabe New Year! It was a beautiful spring day, with lots of sunshine and loads of visitors.
Park Naturalist Sean Hoppes designed and organized a whole series of activities, from how to identify a Sugar Maple Tree and tap it for sap, and then cook it down into syrup and sugar, right in the park. Plus, my friend Tony Drews from Nashké Games led Ojibwe language and culture games for everyone to experience. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff and crew who made it possible, and to all the visitors who joined us!
